Sourcing the best sleeping solution for world record breaker Alastair Galpin
Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at 04:51AM In our last blog piece, you would have seen us mention Alastair Galpin, a world record breaker, a promoter of the work of social and environmental causes in developing countries, and a man who wants to discover a solution to his restless nights.
Most of us would suggest finding the cheapest ear plugs available, popping them in and shutting your eyes, but alas, it isn’t as simple as that for Alastair.
“My ear canals are as weird as I am; of course, to be a world record breaker, you’ve got to be a strange type. And my ear canals are more like Roman labyrinths than passages for airwaves. They widen, narrow, twist up and forwards, and then who knows where they go. What’s more, my left and right ear canals are different in shape, so my worst nightmare is to have to buy one ear plug of a different sort for each ear! To complicate matters, the regular foam ear plugs fall out of my ear lobes within five seconds of being inserted, so I’m a rather frustrated man.”
At All Ear Plugs we offered Alastair to test out three ear plugs, Alpine SleepSoft, Moldex Comet and SilentEar in hope that he will be able to sleep throughout the night without hearing a murmur.
“These tiny and very soft ear plugs are the best. They insert into my weird ear canals with ease, because the supplied insertion handle makes doing so a breeze. Although their dB rating is not as high as I’d have liked, they grip my ear canals’ walls and stay in all night. I like them because they’ve been thoughtfully designed. In all honesty, I can say these are hands down the best pair of ear plugs I have ever used. These guys (Alpine) have obviously listened to customer feedback and engineered their ear plugs accordingly. What a relief after much frustrating searching, thank you.”
“These are also soft, and their flanges help them grip my ear canal walls. I like these, their fit is fairly tight, yet they’re stiff enough to be inserted easily. However, I find them too broad to sit comfortably in my ears, and they slowly work their way out. I wish these were narrower, because then they’d probably work well, and I can see they’d do a good job if only they’d stay in. I can see they’re a very fine product. This would be my second choice after Alpine SleepSoft due to clever design and thoughtful innovation.”
“These are great high-tech ear plugs. I love the feel, and their handy container is also a fantastic protective idea. Their soft and flexible tips make them easy to insert, but perhaps my ear canals are too narrow to make these grip and they fall out.”
Putting these ear plugs head to head with Alastair’s comments in mind it seems Alpine SleepSoft ear plugs have won the title of best sleeping ear plugs. All the ear plugs that Alastair tested proved to be easy to insert and soft, providing him with comfort.
We’re pleased that we’ve found a solution to Alastair’s sleeping woes and we hope that each and every day he awakens in a new surrounding filled with world record breaking opportunities, he feels fresh and ready for the day ahead.
